Drugs and substance abuse are on the rise among all age sets. I believe it’s has been a long time coming. First, we were raised and conditioned with fear, and as adults, we have the freedom to do as we wish. A sad/gloomy educational/economical outlook in the republic leads people to to alternative lifestyles to vent their frustrations. Notice that many creative spaces allow for the use use of drugs to help balance their books. Look at Kenya, over 80% if the republic is under 40 years of age, big everything around us doesn’t seem to put that into consideration. Job openings with years and years of experience required, tendering processes requiring monies our joint clans can’t raise, the falling shilling, high cost of living, poor legislation to stabilise the economy, the indifference of the civil service in attending to us, police officers profiling youth, the provincial Administration always in our necks. Imagine being the majority, yet disenfranchised, but the blame for misrule and destruction of the nation’s hope/dreams lies on your shoulders, while those who kill us slowly fund the propaganda.
Alcoholism is the new escape. That temporary relief from a list of problems, blames, failed marriages, unmet pious standards. We are at the casm is sociocultural change, and the psychological games have most needing a way to vent.
People now live for the next high, the next gig, the next fad, the next craze. Whatever it takes to temporarily forget their trauma, hardships, realities of misrule, a bleak retirement, absurd school curriculum, inflation, stalled dreams. A question that should follow is: How are there many new and upcoming establishments, even in the coldest and remote towns? Who are the investors? What are their alignments? Source of funds? Drug lords?
