Do manifestos really matter in Kenya?

  • 7

Do the manifestos that politicians launch during campaigns towards elections in Kenya matter? Do they really reflect what the government that will come in really do? Do the same Manifestos reflect what the people hope for? Are they really important at the end of the day since most are never really implemented?

Although most are not fulfilled, manifestos remain important yardsticks to see how well a candidate understands and represents our interests as well as for accountability. People are want better representation but right now party politics and campaigns seem to mask the need for change. Manifesto launches seem to be a formality on the checklist to usher in the elections. That’s why most leaders forget about their own manifesto as soon as it is launched.

No they don’t. Most contain things that ought to be done by existing governments regardless of any conditions. Also they barely accomplish anything said during the campaign period

Manifestos do not matter in Kenya, this is because many politicians will draw very impressive manifestos but implementation become a challenge, manifestos are just empty promises that politicians use to win votes.

most manifesto will promise utopia. But most of the promises will come to naught, no matter who takes power on August 9In 2013, Jubilee, with much fanfare, unveiled a manifesto that promised a number of things.

Key among these were five modern stadia, laptops for primary schoolchildren, a million jobs every year for the next five years, a double-digit economic growth rate, food security and cheaper power.

With the possible exception of cheap and accessible power, the Jubilee administration has failed to deliver on all the other promises.

Instead of the stadiums, the ministry of sports was rocked by a scandal that humiliated the nation when its officials stole uniforms meant for the athletes and organized joy rides for themselves and their girlfriends to the Rio Games at the expense of the athletes. . Anyone with an average education can write a manifesto, and any average politician can stand in front of a cheering crowd and recite the promises therein.

Manifesto is just a published declaration of motives by either an individual or a group.Manifesto never matters in Kenya, they just entice citizens with this manifestos so that they can get those post they are vying for.
Manifestos are quiet on deeply entrenched issues that gnaw on the economy, such as tribalism, a culture of seeking handouts and population growth despite limited resources like land.

No they don’t. They are only created for formality but no leader has ever fulfilled everything that they promise in their manifesto.

Manifestos matter a lot in kenya because it outlines what politicians are planning to do for kenyans if chosen. Most of them will deliver on the promises while other will not.
