How does female sexual behavior intersect with religion, culture, or morality?

  • 1

In Gambian culture as well as many other African cultures, the myth of virginity and hymens has an effect in the sex lives of both women and men.

The cultural expectations – religion playing a role in it -of women staying as virgins until their wedding nights while expecting men to engage in sexual relations does play a role in rape and male entitlement.

Has there ever been a point where this norm affected your life and is the issue of not involving in sexual relations before marriage have more to do with your religious restrictions to fornication or is it just your morality and principles as an individual?

I think culture has a bigger impact on one’s sexual behavior compared to religion and morality.
