I have been running a rape safe space for the last four years after my friend was raped. Most of the ladies benefitting from it have not been able to get any kind of support from their parents. The parents have told them to not talk about it at all. Why is there so much hypocrisy or to them, rape is not serious?

I think that's associated with taboos linking rape to uncleanliness. In most cultures, rape brings shame to the whole family and in some, even future generations.

i understand where this sentiment is coming from however i also disagree with it to an extent. we still have parents who listen and take actions when a report is done of rape.

rape is a dirty shamefull act there for it won't be easy for a victim or the parent of the victim to come out and speak about it it just needs some time for healing and the victim can talk about it
