Covid-19 aside, What is the Greatest Challenge Facing the World Currently?

  • 0

On Monday, World Health Organization’s director general through an online conference stated that coronavirus might be felt for decades as the virus kept spreading faster. It is through this virtual health forum that Tedris Adhonom Ghebreyesus revealed that lack of global solidarity and global leadership is the greatest threat facing the world than the virus itself.

“The greatest threat facing the world is not the virus itself but the lack of global solidarity and global leadership. We can’t defeat this pandemic with a divided world,” WHO director general Tedros Adhanam Ghebreyesus said on a health forum organized by Dubai authorities.

He added, “The politicization of the pandemic exacerbated it. None of is safe until all of us are safe.”

According to global statistics, this world’s most contagious virus has infected more than nine million people and killed more than 472,000 people across the world. The easing of lockdowns and other restrictions measures despite the rapid spread of the virus has been slammed by WHO as they argued that there could be another dangerous phase of the virus coming soon.

With the pandemic still spreading on a high note, a vaccine is far away from being identified. WHO described the epidemic as more than a health crisis. It is believed to be a social crisis, economic crisis and a political crisis which many countries across the world are facing. WHO added that the effects of the virus might be felt for decades to come.

Yet…yet, I am a denier! A self confessed COVIDIOT! At least in the African context of the pandemic. I really like to interrogate every subject , view, outlook because I don’t like to take it like I am an unthinking idiot while everyone else is not. My experience with the dodgy adoption of preventive measures in my neighborhood taught me to question popular beliefs ABOUT COVID.
