HIV prevention among youth in Kenya has been enabled through abstinence, be faithful and condom campaigns. Abstinence has been mainly perpetuated by the church to the unmarried youth in the teenage age group, faithfulness has been advocated for married couples while condom use is encouraged among sexually active youth who are not in long-term or committed relationships.
In spite of the awareness campaigns, HIV is still alive and still kills people. This was once attributed to the lack of information as well as stigma and discrimination. Today, another reason behind new infections is ignorance and the relatively easy availability of ARV’s. How can we prevent the continued spread of HIV especially through new infections?
There was a report this year that highlighted that there Is increase infection among the adolescent, education campaign should be intensified so as to inform youths on how best they can protect themselves to reduce infection rate.
