What are the dangers of keeping a deep secret?

We all have secrets that we have never shared with anyone. Some of the secrets leak out to a trusted few, while others are locked under key, never to be revealed. Keeping secrets is easy but it can also cause an emotional toll on our mind and even lead to stress. Some secrets require a higher mental energy to keep than others and the more the secrets pile up, the more they affect our well being.

Some of the most common secrets that people keep involve sexual relations and romantic desires with someone who is not your partner, or sexual fetishes like masturbation and pornography. These sexual-related secrets are mainly kept because of the shame and guilt involved if they are ever revealed and their potential to affect current relationships that you still value.

People are also known to keep personal financial details and family issues as a secret as a way of protecting social standing. Some of these secrets lead to lies and may cause trust issues when confidentiality is involved or broken. Regardless of the reason, the more secrets you keep, the heavier the burden is to your mind. You may even develop paranoia and avoid others just in an effort to maintain that secret.

There is so much freedom when you have nothing to hide and the worst kind of secrets are those that you fall into unintentionally and have no option bu tot keep them. Death threats and blackmail are sometimes involved which makes it even more dangerous depending on the magnitude of the secret and the people involved. The way around it could mean either revealing the secret or training your mind to burry it in the subconscious, in a way that it will not affect your daily life.
