What quote have you ever read that completely changed how you view things?

  • 3

I read this in The Bell Jar (Sylvia Plath) and it felt like the world shifted. I knew I felt this but had never found the words to describe it so poignantly.

‘I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in my life. And I am horribly limited.’

Whew. I have several, but here are my best two:

“You will find that if you look for the light, you can often find it. But if you look for the dark, that is all you will ever see.” Uncle Iroh.

“And that’s the problem with people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too.” Khaled Hosseini – The Kite Runner.

Hating someone is drinking poison and expecting the other person to die from it.

      Woweez! Profound!!
I wish I could collect such profound proclamations from local people, I am sure they exist. But clearly they have been overtaken by the swiftly changing times. First off…local languages are threatened by urbanisation and exclusion from the curriculum. Wonder how it helps seeing as ethnicity still reigns supreme in KE, if they were scrapped to make us feel as one.

This one I didn’t read but had from an American singer who was suffering from three types of cancer. she quoted “you don’t have wait to have everything so that you can be happy” Nightbirde. The singer only had a 2% chance of survival but she said she was okay with it. For the very first time in my life I learnt to be more grateful for the gift of good health and I learnt to cherish life and every little thing I have. Nightbirde died in July this year and the entire united States mourned her death

Thinking is difficult. That’s why most people judge.

‘No one owes you anything, you got to fight your way to achieve anything in this world’ Author Unknown. This quote completely changed how i view anything. I know that i have to struggle to earn anything that i want in this world.
