My grandmother has this ritual that I feel harbours many lessons for us all. Now that I’m older I am more aware of the fragile dynamic of holding people together in a world that is hell-bent on setting them apart.

Now, I appreciate her matriarchal gestures beyond the little packages of love she shares. My hope is that we’ll manage to carry some of these subtle acts of unity into our newly found communities.

Anyways, due to demand from quite a lot of people “Grandmother’s Ritual” performance off Mwariama: Truth Be Told” is now on YouTube as a stand-alone video. You can watch, Share, Subscribe & please leave a gesture of love behind…

Dorphanage – Mwariama: Truth Be Told (Poetry Concept Showcase) [7th Oct, 2023]

We live in a world mauled with layers and layers of dysfunction – from the nuclear unit to the global stage our world is a mess to say the least. A huge part of this stems from our insistence on living lies and pretending all is well.

However the growing inequality, climate change, mental health issues and the instability even within our family set-ups tell a much bleak story. We cannot stay silent about our hardships and pretend it’ll all just go away, we have to use our voices to be and to bring the change.

“Mwariama: Truth Be Told” is a poetry concept showcase by Dorphanage incorporating various other artistic disciplines seeking to not just spark honest conversations on the state of our world but also to amplify voices of truth. The event also doubles up in paying homage to Field Marshal Musa Mwariama, the highest ranking Mau Mau leader who survived the war without being killed or captured. Mwariama in Kimeru means “Truthteller”.
