PRESS CONFERENCE AND PEACEFUL PROTEST AGAINST THE IMPENDING DEMOLITION OF INFORMAL PLACES OF TRADE (VIBANDAS) AND FORCEFUL EVICTION OF INFORMAL TRADERS (HUSTLERS) SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY 24TH FEBRUARY 2024 ON THE NGONG ROAD-KIBERA-LANGATA LINK ROAD CUTTING THROUGH WOODLEY/KENYATTA GOLF COURSE WARD

I am in receipt of a removal notice issued by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) to Informal Traders in my Ward requiring them to move from the Ngong Road-Kibera-Langata Link Road corridor.

It is saddening that a National Government Agency such as KURA can decide to kick out Struggling Kenyans and destroy their businesses, livelihoods and income generating activities during these extremely harsh economic times. I am perplexed at how such a poor and irrational decision can be made with full understanding that the Kenya Kwanza Government is a Hustler Regime.

As enshrined in the Bill Of Rights, every person has the right, peaceably and unarmed, to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket, and to present petitions to public authorities.

This is to hereby notify you of the intention of Organized Traders (Hustlers) from my Ward to participate in a Peaceful Protest scheduled for Friday 23rd February 2024 in Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course Ward from 10am.

This Peaceful Protest will be in form of a Press Conference and a Procession which will start outside Prestige Plaza and snake through Ngong Road, Suna Road, Joseph Kangethe Road and the Ngong Road-Kibera Link Road. A Written Petition by the affected Traders will then be dispatched to the KURA Offices at Barabara Plaza-JKIA, Airport South Road. I hereby request you to provide coverage and highlight the Traders’ Plight as they demand that KURA rescinds this Notice and allows them to do continue operating their businesses without disruption and interference. Further, they demand that a No Objection Letter be issued by KURA to allow them to put up Modern Kiosks in the said section in line with the Nairobi City County Government’s County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP 2023-2027).

The Protestors will include the Elderly as well as Persons With Disability who are struggling to earn a living in the section earmarked for demolition. I have written to the Inspector General of Police and have asked him to provide security for the same.
When: Friday 22nd February, 2024.

Where: Outside Prestige Plaza, Ngong Road.
Time: 10am

Please delegate at least one cameraman and one reporter.

The media will also have an opportunity to ask any questions related to the same. For further information and inquiries, contact:
