Safaricom will be available in Ethiopia starting next month after being awarded an operating license, becoming the first international operator given the chance to operate in the Horn of Africa. They will launch an Ethiopian network in the north-eastern city of Dire Dawa.
Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia P.L.C., previously known as Global Partnership for Ethiopia BV, is an SPV awarded a licence to operate telecom services in Ethiopia at a license fee of US$850 million. This fee made it the single largest foreign direct investment into Ethiopia.
With safaricoms expansion it will create both revenue and job opportunities to many people.Communication rates [calls and data] will be lowered
There will be more jobs but i don’t understand how this will reduce the data and call rates.
It’s a good idea since it will create employment for citizens of Ethiopia
Kenyan based safaricom starting its operations in Ethiopia is a good sign that kenya is heading somewhere. We are very advanved in the telecommunication industry that we are exporting our services to other countries. The kenyan government will benefit a lot since it own almost half of the safaricom. Kenyan taxpayers will eventually benefit.
