Rape is about power and control. Rapists don’t always just pick any random person, it is mostly someone they know: a friend, a neighbour, a colleague, a family member etc. (Although they can also be random)
Since rapists are sick and weak, they tend to prey on vulnerable people… that’s why 4 month old babies and 80 year old women are raped.
The issue about reporting rape I think is hard because our justice system treats the person who has been raped like trash and ask stupid questions like are you sure?*&%$
When the rapist is at a higher position of power than the victim, it becomes hard to go against them for fear of the repercussions. If the president raped you today going against him would be a lost battle unless you have some strong evidence.
Both, no one would wish to confess about rape because of the stigma that is associated with it.. Even mentioning the perpetrator of the act make one to be more traumatised.
The ordeal itself. Passing through it is nails on flesh.
Admission to having pass through the ordeal takes overwhelming courage. Naming the perpetrator/villain purely depends on the relationship (if any) and the amount of fear it also brought to you. To some, it requires amassing of strength from the skies and beyond, to others, they can plainly name. It comes down to who did it? Do you know him/her? Do you fear him/her? Do you fear what becomes of you after you say it or not?
Courage is a missing ingredient in most of our lives!

The stigmatization that’s follows after someone confesses about being raped is the reason why many decide to go silent. Also many don’t their rights
Reporting someone for rape is risk since our criminal Justice system doesn’t protect witnesses or reward them,so better remain silent to be safe
I think mentioning the perpetrator is more difficult when he is well known to the victim. The stigmatisation and judgement that comes with this is worse.
Most rape cases are perpetuated by individuals who are close to their victims, especially relatives. The shame that come with that makes the victims shy off from mentioning their names
Both situations are traumatizing in itself
