Does depression affect “Old Souls” the most?

  • 3

For those of you who were always told they’re old souls when growing up, how’s your mental health today? I realised that old souls are more in tune with the injustices around the world, emphaty runs in their blood and sometimes it can be overwhelming.

Depression affects older people differently than younger people. In older people, depression often goes along with other medical illnesses and disabilities and lasts longer.

Depression in older adults is tied to a higher risk of cardiac diseases and of death from illness. At the same time, depression reduces an older person’s ability to rehabilitate. Studies of nursing home patients with physical illnesses have shown that the presence of depression substantially increases the likelihood of death from those illnesses. Depression also has been linked with increased risk of death after a heart attack. For that reason, it’s important to make sure that an older adult you are concerned about is evaluated and treated, even if the depression is mild.

Yes it does. Some elderly people feel depressed when they see that they haven’t achieved everything they were supposed to at their age.

In most cases, old souls are low-key depressed. They are mainly introverts and tend not to talk about their problems to the people around them. They are somehow wise and act more mature than the people third age. This affects them because they barely interact with their age group or so. They are great thinker and so analyse situations more and tend to retrieve themselves from the world. They prefer their own world because they trust they are fine as at that. In real sense they need exposure to some different kind of approach in life. They get depressed because they are not able to view life as others view it. I think old souls are the most affected by depression.

You articulated that so succinctly. Growing up an old soul, getting old and losing the soul. The circles and cycles of the mortality realm.

I think old souls suffer depression the most because they have their youthful freedom taken away from them. From a young age, their appearance is that of an old soul and most don’t want to be associated with them. Most end up lonely their whole lives which lead to depression.

yes… mostly because with the empathetic nature, they feel the need to be everyone’s hero while forgetting they themselves need to be taken care of too or take care of themselves.

Even younger people can experience the same or even higher levels of depression but with many distractions in form of work, life, career… their attention is limited to the retrace and most are in adventure mode and have not yet been exposed to many stressors yet. Later in life the cumulation of this automatically created heavier thoughts than for youngins.

Depression affect the old souls because when they get to that age, they are neglected by the society and they start having stress. At the end these old people give up on life
The old should be taken care of by the society to give them hope to live long.
