In many African states, politics is marred by violence, persecution, intimidation and torture. While both genders are victims of this, it presents particular barriers to women’s engagement in political participation.
African cultures place the woman in a position where she is not expected to lead or give direction to men. The beliefs still apply to date as much as people think they are outdated.
